The process in which a woman carries the pregnancy of another woman with the purpose of delivering the baby at term and handing over to the owner of the conceptus.
The procedure is performed by in vitro fertilization and the successfully fertilized egg is then implanted into the surrogate mother who has been adequately synchronized hormonally to receive the growing conceptus and therefore cause its implantation in her own receptive uterus. If it establishes contact and implantation, it should grow till term when it is then harvested.

The procedure is performed in conditions in which the owner of conceptusconceptus gives her own egg for IVF because she has a functioning ovary but cannot carry the pregnancy to term successfuly because she may be deficient of any of the reproductive organs necessary for such activity such as fallopian tube, uterus, etc. Or she may just be plain lazy.
