Causes/features Diagnosis Management
 
  • Reduce.
  • Must use either continuous traction or internal fixation to remove the overiding complication.
  • Continuous traction can be provided by skeletal traction with Thomas' splint or Böhler-Braun splint for about 4-8 weeks.
  • Then place in above-knee walking plaster which allows minimal weight bearing.
  • Internal fixation can be used when there is multiple injuries after surgical exposure of tibia.
  • Lack of union after 5 months should be labeled as non-union and treated with bone graft.
