Causes/features Diagnosis Management
 
  • Compound fractures are commonest at the shin.
  • Direct blow to the leg, more severe than the single fractures.
  • They are either stable or unstable fractures.
  • Road traffic accident
  Treat skin deficiencies with skin parallel release incisions.

 STABLE FRACTURES

  • Reduce fracture.
  • Place above the knee plaster with a wound window.

UNSTABLE FRACTURES

  • Treat with internal fixation in selected and clean cases.
  • Or Anderson leg lengthening apparatus.
  • Or Pin transfixation with two pins for proximal and distal fragments.
