Kirchners wires are used for small bone and comminuted fractures

Screws are used to position fragments of fractures.

Combination of plate and screws are used in shafts of long bones with up to 3 screws at each end of fracture.

Intramedullary fixation is used for long bones such as femur and humerus via a semi-rigid nail such as Küntscher nail or a pin such as Rush pin placed in the medullary cavity.
