Causes Diagnosis Management
  • Isolated injuries to the pelvic cavity or girdle causing displaced single fractures, mostly through fall in sports. For example, horse riding.
  • Severe violence to pelvis as in fall from height or being run over by vehicle which cause displacement of fracture.
  • Displacement must occur if there are more than one single fracture.
  • Dislocation of sacroiliac joint or pubic symphysis occurs with usually  one single fracture- both leading to displacement.

  • Single displaced fractures can be treated with surgical excision of small fragment.
  • See if soft tissue injuries exist- e.g. urethral damage etc.
  • Reduce displacement through the use of skeletal traction applied through tibial tuberosity.
  • Then use hip spica or pelvic sling to immobilize for 8-10 weeks
