Causes Diagnosis Management
 
  • Reduction
  • Immobilize with plaster on the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb in almost full extension, with pressure on the base of thumb dorsally as plaster sets.
  • This method sometimes does not maintain the unstable fracture and may require a continuous traction placed in the inner aspect of a forearm plaster cast.
  • Internal fixation by plate and screw may be an option to consider if the above fails.
