Colonoscopy

This is the use of the colonoscope to visualise the colon with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera through a flexible tube which is passed through the anus to reach the entire colon. It is able to provide diagnosis (e.g. of polyps etc) and also can remove biopsy materials in suspected colorectal diseases and cancer. Colonoscope can examine all part of the colon while a sigmoidoscope limits itself to the distal part which has been found to be the most useful in limiting limiting cancer and reducing its mortality and morbidity.
