Subthalamus

It is a very small structure which is more related to the paleocortex than the diencephalon.

It is placed below the thalamus and caudal to the hypothalamus.

It is a small structure in the diencephalon, which is connected strangely enough, not copiously to the diencephalon but to the smell brain via the amygdala. It has a subthalamic fasciculus by which it is connected to the thalamus. This fasciculus is connected to the pallidofugal system. The subthalamus is placed ventral to thalamus but caudal and lateral to the hypothalamus.
