Factitious illness

 

This is a condition in which the individual produces voluntary and conscious symptoms of illnesss. Such symptoms may include chronic diarrhea, fever of unknown origin, intestinal bleeding, etc. Factitious illness includes malingering, and Munchausen's syndrome. It is different from conversion disorder in which presentation is focused on psychoneurological aspects of nervous function to include motor or sensory disorder without intention.
