Whooping cough

This is caused by a gram negative coccobacillus called Bordetella pertussis. It is characterized by violent cough paroxysms. The infection is similar to croup since both are infections of the middle respiratory tract with laryngotracheobronchitis which causes mucosal erosion and  exudate formation with leucocytosis.
