Midsytolic murmur

This is most often caused by mitral valve prolapse, especially the midsystolic click. It is commoner in Marfan's syndrome and affects more females than male (ratio 7:1). It is not known whether it is derived from developmental abnormality or is just an extracellular matrix disease. It occurs mainly between ages 20-40 years.
