Early diastolic murmur

Diastolic murmurs may be delayed  or early. Early ones are caused by aortic or pulmonary regurgitation and determined by the position in which the murmurs are heard. So in aortic regurgitation the sound is heard best at the aortic area on the 2nd intercostal space to the right of the sternum, while the pulmonary is heard best in the pulmonary area which corresponds to the 2nd interscostal space to the left of the sternum.
