Neisseria gonorrhoeae

 

This is a gram negative organism which is non motile and  does not produce spores but grows in pairs called diploccossus. Organism causes gonorrhea which is sexually transmitted infection usually spread by sexual contact. The organism is coffee bean shaped and is oxidase positive, just as other Neisseria spp but grows only on selective media unlike other species of the same genus. It utilizes glucose and not maltose, lactose or indeed sucrose.
