Pap

This is one of the signs seen in cervical cycle. It is the non stretching mucus released by the endocervix during stages of menstrual cycle. It is suggestive of moderately low sex steroids in the female reproductive tract closed circulation, higher than dry sign and lower than eggwhite sign. It occurs in two forms- early pap at the follicular phase and late pap at luteal phase. Early pap is released about 8 day of menstrual cycle after dry while late pap is released after ovulation. It normally stays for 3-5 days. When it stays longer than that it is called persistent pap sign. The sign shows mucous which is cloudy and does not stretch just like 'pap'.
