Culdoscopy

 

The procedure of passing through a culdoscope into the the cul-de-sac which is the space continuous below with the posterior fornix of the vagina into the pouch of Douglas, in order to aspirate fluid.

 

It is a useful procedure when diagnosis of intraperitoneal, especially intrapelvic hemorrhage or fluid collection is to be made as in ruptured ectopic pregnancy or theca lutein cyst.
