Acute laryngitis

 

Acute laryngitis may be cause by viral, bacterial chemical or allergic agents. When suppurative it is caused by bacteria. It may be caused also by heavy tobacco smoking. In children, simple laryngitis of the Haemophilus influenzae variety may extend to form croup which is another name for acute laryngotracheobronchitis.
