Filaria

 

These are nematodes which parasitize and live in subcutaneous tissue and lymphatics. They have about 8 species that infect man as follows

Wuchereria bancrofti

Mansonella ozzardi

Mansonella streptocerca

bullet

Mansonella perstans

bullet

Loa loa

bullet

Brugia timori

bullet

Brugia malayi

They all have vectors and the commonest is mosquito, followed by midges (M. perstans, M. sterptocerca), black flies (Onchocerca volvulus) and deer flies (L . loa).
