Progesterone deficiency syndromes

 

Name given to a group of conditions affecting the female in which progesterone is low or at least has a reversal of estrogen:progesterone ratio. It affects the nullipara in premenstrual syndrome, the would-be pregnant in luteal phase defect, the pregnant female in first trimester miscarriages and preclampsia- eclampsia in 3rd trimester pregnancies. It affect the puerperal woman in postnatal depression or maternity blues and the menopausal in the postmenopausal syndrome. It is best treated with progesterone supplements.

         Luteinized unruptured follicle

         Maternity blues

         Puerperal psychosis

         Bilateral salpingectomy

         Ovulation failure (some types)

         Luteal phase defect

         Preeclampsia-eclampsia

         HELLP syndrome ???
