Paracervical block

Anesthetic block of the cervix and lower part of the female reproductive tract by injection of local anesthetic agent into the paracervical region.

Use medicut or spinal needle. Inject lignocaine 1% about 5mls into the mucosa of the vagina just lateral to the cervix on both side. This is useful in dilatation and currettage and in evacuation procedure

Anesthetic solution is delivered into the paracervical tissue (around the cervix) in two sites -at 3 and 4 o'clock and 8 and  o'clock. It blocks the nerves which supply the uterus and cervix, which may include uterine and cervical nerves and branches of the pudendal nerves.
