Cardiac output

This is the volume of blood pumped out at each heart beat. It is the volume of blood that enters the aorta every minute. Together with the peripheral resistance it forms the systemic arterial blood pressure.

Blood pressure  = Cardiac output   x   peripheral resistance

Peripheral resistance  =   Blood pressure/cardiac output
