Blood pressure

This is mathematically the multiplication of cardiac output and peripheral resistance It is the pressure by which the heart pumps blood into the arteries. It is divided into two types

  • Systolic pressure
  • Diastolic pressure

Mean arterial pressure is the mean of the two

Blood pressure is  controlled by several factors.

Blood pressure  = Cardiac output   x   peripheral resistance

Peripheral resistance  =   Blood pressure/cardiac output
