Histopharmacology of thyroid gland

Levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3) can be given in hypothyroidsism.

Thionamides block the synthesis of thyroid hormones and can be used for treatment of hyperthyroidism. Also radioiodine destroys follicular cells and iodide whose mechanism is unknown. Other antithyroid drugs include carbimazole and propylthiouracil.
