Histopharmacology of cervix

 

Cervical gel can be delivered for the softening of the cervix in labor or for induction of labor. Such drugs include dinoprost (prostaglandin F2α and PGE2 )and prostin E2 or dinoprostone (prostaglandin E2 and PGE2)

Also gemeprost (prostaglandin E1 can be used to soften the cervix before operative procedures on the cervix. Cervix requires  high Bishop's score which includes softening or ripening, to encourage induction of labor.
