Pathology of pituitary gland

Tumors of the anterior pituitary gland usually affects one of five types especially the adenomas (benign tumors). They include prolactinoma - mammotroph cell adenoma, corticotroph cell adenoma, thyrotroph cell adenoma, somatotroph cell adenoma, gonadotroph cell adenoma and thyrotroph cell adenoma. Functional tumors produce the hormones from their cells in large excess such as prolactinoma.
