Oblique lie

This is situation adopted by the fetus in the uterus. It is usually established before birth but may sometimes change  before or during labor.

Once labor is established in oblique lie, delivery  must be effected by Caesarean section. This type of lie is associated with abnormal uterine anatomy, lower uterine segment absence multiparity pendulous abdomen and tumors of the uterus.

Diagnosis is easy. Usually the fetal pole is palpable at the flanks. An inverted T incision on the uterus may be utilised during Caesarean section but a classical section will ensure quick delivery with minimal fetal trauma.
