Vocal/tactile fremitus

In this maneuver, palm of the hand is placed on the chest wall flat and the patient is asked to repeat the words 'ninety nine' or 'one'. If the vibrations on the palms are different on both sides, that should suggest abnormality. Vocal or tactile fremitus is reduced in pleural effusion, atelectasis, or obstructed bronchi.
