Roll over mouse to demonstrate sneeze reflex

Click to demonstrate sneeze reflex

Sneeze reflex involves the nasal passages and not the respiratory tract and irritation may be caused by foreign body or noxious gases. These stimulate the C5 nerve receptors. But the vocal cords fail to open and so air is expelled from and through the nasal passages and not from the lungs, removing foreign bodies along with it. It is accompanied by contraction of the lower esophageal (cardiac) sphincter.
