Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC)

 

Definition:  A measure of concentration of hemoglobin in 100mls of red cells in grams. This is done by dividing hemoglobin in grams by hematocrit and multiplying by 100 to obtain the percentage.

Method:  

Normal value: 32-36%

Abnormality : Low in hypochromic anemias (as in iron deficiency). High in hyperchromic anemias.
