Cutaneous leishmaniasis

 

Condition caused by Leishmania spp mainly caused by Leishmania mexicana major but also also the Vianna subgenus. They are divided into two types

  • Old world cutaneous leishmaniasis

  • New world cutaneous leishmaniasis

The lesions on the skin start with papules which graduate to nodule and finally ulcerate.
