Intestinal juice (succus entericus)
 

 

This fluid is turbid and contains the following
 

Leucocytes:

Epithelial cells:

Mucus:

Solids: These consist of about 1.5% of the total half of which is made up of saline- NaCl, sodium bicarbonate and other inorganic salts.

Enzymes: It contains enterokinase, aminiopeptidase, oligo 1,6-glucosidase, maltase, sucrase, lactase, dipeptidase, nuclease, phosphatase, nucleodidase, lipase, amylase and enterokinase.

Gut hormones influence the production and rate of secretion of enzymes in the gut and they include the following

Gastrin

Secretin

Cholecystokinin-Pancreozymin

Glucagon

Gastric inhibitory peptide

Vasoactive intestinal peptide

Bombesin
