Ribonucleic acid (RNA)

This is the single strand nucleic acid which is produced through transcription from DNA which is double helical nucleic acid. It contains ribose sugar (with hydroxyl group) as opposed to deoxyribose in DNA in which there is no hydroxyl group). It can be recognized in tissue by the Northern blot technique which then shows that the gene under investigation is active in the said tissue and the RNA is called messenger RNA (mRNA) or transcripts.
