Cell types: Pituicyte, somatotroph, corticptroph, gonadotroph, melanotroph, thyrotroph, lactotroph
 

Differential diagnosis:
This could be confused with other glands espcially the dense ones such as parathyroid. Parathyroid tissue has cells running in cords with medium sparseness. The sparse glands can be easily distinguished such as thyroid and adrenal cortex.

Diagnostic Features:
a. Tissue is compact (e.g. liver)
b. It consist of glandular tissue judging from rich parenchyma with minimal spaces.
c. It is part of the adenohypophysis which is further divided into pars anterior (anterior pituitary), pars intermedia and pars tuberalis.
