Differential diagnosis:
This could be confused with salivary glands which do not have any endocrine (islet) components and their serous demilunes are light staining.

Diagnostic Features:
a. Tissue is compact (e.g. liver)
b. It consists of glandular tissue judging from rich parenchyma with minimal spaces.
c. The acini are of different shapes and sizes and darkly staining as opposed to salivary gland serous cells which are lightly staining.
d. It contains ductular arrangement consistent with active exocrine function. But also the islands of endocrine, well vascularized cells, which form the islets of Langerhans.
