Adrenal gland                                  Chart

Cell types: Glomerulosa cell, fasciculata cell, reticularis cell (cortex), NA 1-4 cells, A cell (medulla)

Differential diagnosis:
This could be confused with other glands sucha s the live. The liver cells are arranged in plates and cords. The parathyroid is smaller and has no distinct zonation. Other glands have spaces such as thyroid, pancreas, etc.

Diagnostic Features:
a. Tissue is compact (e.g. liver)
b. It consists of glandular tissue judging from rich parenchyma with minimal spaces.
c.
Long and straight cords running from capsule to medulla is the haulmark of its diagnosis. Cell cords in the zonae glomerulosa and reticularis are wider apart than in the remaining zone (fasciculata). Under low power magnification the zona reticularis are seen as dark as capsular covering. There is more space in medulla representing high vascularization.

Database selection: Practical Tissue Gross

Level 1: Select  compact
Level 2: Select organs-glands Level 2: Select organs from list of
sclerous, muscular, connective, organ-glands and nervous tissues..
Level 3: Select spaces medium.

Can you identify the zones and the cells which make them up?
