The large bronchi have epithelium of the pseudostratified columnar variety as in the trachea, which includes numerous cell types. There are fewer goblet cells however and scanty lamina propria. After the lamina propria, is a layer of smooth muscle and then the submucosa which is also provided with sero-mucous glands. The adventitia is mainly cartilage of similar structure as the trachea and it performs similar function. The small bronchi have the same features as the large bronchi but it has fewer glands, and a few goblet cells The lumen is small and the cartilage tissue is also small.
