Breast

Breast explanatory video

It consist of fat or areolar tissue in which is embedded the mammary gland. These glands contains about 15-20 lactiferous ducts which produce milk and transport same to the areola of the breast. The mammary glands itself has also 15-20 lobes and each lobe contains several lobules. Each lobe is drained by a lactiferous duct. The lactiferous ducts have columnar epithelium but near its opening into the nipple it becomes stratified squamous epithelium. The glands are apocrine in secretion.

Cell type

This is mainly the secretory cell which  forms the alveoli of the breast. They contain considerable smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum, a lot of mitochondria and Golgi complexes. They also contain numerous lysosomes. They also stores fat as fat globules in the  cytoplasm.  They secrete milk and fat by apocrine mechanism
