Thymus
The thymus has nodules with
cortex and medulla. Corpuscles of Hassall are scattered in the nodules.Corpuscles
of Hassall (or thymic corpuscles) are the large red cells seen clearly
in this higher magnification They are diagnostic of the thymus
Differential diagnosis: Thymus can be confused with other lymphatic
organs such as spleen, lymph node and tonsil. All have nodules except
spleen with pulp. But thymus has distinct corpuscles of Hassall which
others do not have and splenic pulp is a diagnostic feature for
spleen.
