Salivary gland

Salivary glands vary in their structure from mucous to serous glands. The sublingual gland is predominantly mucous, just as submandibular gland but parotid gland is completely serous. Hence we have in this picture mainly mucous cells surrounding a central tiny secretory lumen

Differential diagnosis: Pancreas has acini with secretory lumen but can easily be made out by the lightly staining islets. Prostate gland is fibromuscular. The muscle fibers are a give away. Breast too contain secretory alveoli but their secretory lumina are bigger than those of salivary gland.
