Prostate gland

The prostate gland is one of the glands associated with the male reproductive system. It is covered with a capsule which is fibrous and its glands are embedded in a fibromuscular stroma. This stroma includes many smooth muscle fibers which run in many directions and collagenous and elastic fibers. Its glands have secretory epithelium and are covered with columnar or pseudostratified cells, but may sometimes be cuboidal or even squamous. The glandular ducts are easily confused with the ducts of lung alveoli but are easily made out because the lung does not have fibromuscular stroma.
