Pancreas
The pancreas is easily
recognized by its many ducts and septa including the
acini, which are
the basic functional exocrine unit of the organ. The islet of Langerhans
are the basic units of the endocrine part of the organ and are prominent
features which may be confused with glomeruli of the kidney but which
can be distinguished it by the numerous tubules in the latter organ
The basic exocrine unit of the organ
is the acinus, which is here shown as pinkish staining , surrounded by
bluish staining secretory cells.
Differential diagnosis:
The exocrine glands with numerous ducts and acini like breast
salivary
gland and even thymus can be confused with the
pancreas.
