Lymph node

The lymph node is the center of lymphocytic activity and hence has many lymphocytes. Its appearance in hematoxylin-eosin stain is therefore bluish in color. It is made up of a peripheral cortex and a central medulla. The cortex contains many lymphatic nodules whose centers are light staining, containing the germinal  centers for the proliferation of lymphocytes

Differential diagnosis: Lymph nodes can be easily confused with the spleen, thymus and tonsil All are lymphatic organs and they have lymphocytes in abundance. Examine their features, which aid their recognition.
