SHORT DESCRIPTION:
This is collapse of parts of lungs such as a lobe. It may be caused by foreign body blockage of part to the respiratory tree (resorption atelectasis), compressive atelectasis (pleural space expanded by fluid, air or hemorrhage) and contraction (full expansion of part of lung dissuaded by lung parenchymal fibrosis). There is absence breath sounds at the area of atelectasis.
