Abnormal collection of fluid in the abdomen (peritoneal cavity) which may be due to tumor of the abdomen, liver disease, or heart failure.

It can be identified by the sign succussion splash or by fluid thrill method. Also the abdomen is dull to percussion if it contains fluid. Ascites may be caused by any disease that is able to cause
