UTERINE CERVICAL GANGLION

DESCRIPTION: This is a single ganglion which is the largest single ganglion in the collection of paracervical ganglia placed around the cervix uteri and formed from nerves to the cervix, coming from the uterovaginal plexus.

BRANCHES:

bullet

To cervix

FUNCTIONAL COMPONENTS:

bullet

GVE sympathetic vasomotor fibers from roots L1-4.

bullet

GVA sympathetic sensory fibers whose cell bodies are placed in the L1-4 spinal ganglia through the thoracic splanchnic nerves and lumbar splanchnic nerves.

bullet

GVE fibers from the parasympathetic sacral outflow S2-S4 called pelvic splanchnic nerves or nervi erigentes

ROOT

bullet

The vasomotor sympathetic fibers originate from the ventral part of the intermediolateral horn of L1-4 spinal cord segments while their sensory branches have their pseudounipolar cell bodies in the spinal ganglia L1-4, and their roots in the dorsal part of the intermediolateral horn of corresponding spinal cord segments.

bullet

Parasympathetic fibers arise from the ventral aspect of intermediolateral horn of S2-4 spinal cord segments.
