ULNAR NERVE

ORIGIN: Medial cord of brachial plexus

COURSE/DISTRIBUTION: Begins lateral to the medial head of median nerve and medial to the medial cutaneous of forearm . It runs posteromedial to the distal part of the axillary artery but departs from the artery at the level of the insertion of the coracobrachialis where it pierces the medial intermuscular septum to run in the posterior compartment of the upper arm. It enters the forearm at the posterior surface of the medial epicondyle of humerus, in the groove between that structure and the olecranon. It then enters the anterior compartment of the forearm accompanied by the ulnar artery. It reaches the wrist by passing above the flexor retinaculum and splitting into digital and muscular branches, after given off its dorsal branch of ulnar nerve which supplies the skin of the medial 1/3 of the dorsum of the hand.

BRANCHES. No branches in the axilla, or arm. It provides muscular branches in the forearm.
