The
spinal
cord
is
housed
in the
vertebral
canal,
which
is the
hollow
(or
inside)
of the
vertebral
column.
The
spinal
cord
is a
more
primitive
center
of
coordination
and it
is
capable
of
control
without
any
directive
from
the
brain.
This,
it
exercises
in the
process
called
spinal
reflexes. This consist of spinal (associated with spinal cord) and cranial (associated with brain) nerves. Spinal cord has 31 nerves. They are all called spinal nerves Motor nerves are provided with multipolar neurons as opposed to the pseudounipolar neurons of the sensory nerves. Multipolar neurons have only one axon and several dendritic processes. Their cell bodies lie in the central nervous system Links Spinal cord Lateral spinothalamic tract (ascending) Lateral corticospinal tract (descending) Anterior spinocerebellar tract Other ascending tracts Other descending tracts Anterolateral corticospinal tract
