One of the bones of the skull seen at the norma parietalis and norma frontalis. It makes the lower jaw and carries the teeth in this jaw.

Mandible is the bone of the lower jaw. It is singe, having been fused in embryological development leading to the formation of a false symphysis known as the symphysis menti between the two halves of the mandible.  The mandible is the largest and strongest of the bones of the skull. It has a curved body with two processes (rami) on either side.

The body carries a mental tubercle on the sides of the symphysis menti and has an internal oblique mylohyoid line. It has two processes- the condylar process, which carries the head of the mandible (or condyle) and the coronoid process, which provides attachment for the temporalis. The head of mandible of mandible articulates with the mandibular process of the temporal bone forming the temporomandibular joint, which allows the movement of the lower jaw on the upper. A neck of mandible connects the head of mandible with the ramus of mandible.

The mandibular ramus also has a mandibular canal whose external extreme is the mandibular foramen. This transmits the inferior alveolar nerve and vessels.
