Living anatomy of liver

Gross anatomy of liver and location in the right hypochondrium

This structure is placed at the right hypochondrium. It has borders and surface. It also has two morphological lobes

bullet

Left lobe which is smaller than

Right lobe

and 10 functional lobes

Right caudate lobe

Sometimes we have a variant lobe called the Reidel's lobe. It is not abnormal.

Arteries of liver

This is the common hepatic artery, which becomes proper hepatic arery which divides into right and left hepatic arteries for the functional division of the liver

Portal circulation

Also portal vein with its division into left and right portal branches

Veins of liver

Venous drainage of the liver is via the hepatic veins which are three in number

bullet

Left hepatic veins drains the left functional lobe

bullet

Right hepatic vein drains the right functional lobe

bullet

Central hepatic veins drains the caudate lobe.

Nerves
From the hepatic plexus. It contains parasympathetic fibers from the anterior and posterior vagi and sympathetic fibers from the thoracic splanchnic nerves.

Ligaments of liver
bullet

Falciform ligament

bullet

Coronary ligament

bullet

Hepatorenal ligament

bullet

Left triangular ligament

bullet

Right triangular ligament

bullet

Lesser omentum

Others : Ligamentum teres and ligamentum venosum
