This is the voice box. It extends from its junction, with the trachea, at level of C6 to pharynx.It contains six cartilages, (corniculate, arytenoid, epiglottis, cricoid, cuneiform and thyroid cartilages), and many membranes. It has other structures as follows.Muscles: Intrinsic: Cricothyroid, posterior cricoarytenoid, lateral cricoarytenoid, oblique arytenoid, transverse arytenoid, thyroarytenoid, vocalis, thyroepiglottic, aryepiglotticus Extrinsic: Thyrohyoid (raises larynx in swallowing), stylopharyngeus (assists elevation), palatophayngeus (assists elevation), sternothyroid (opens laryngeal orifice) Arteries:
