SACROILIAC JOINTS

 

Joint animation

DESCRIPTION: The articular surfaces of this joint are the auricular surface of sacrum and that of the ilium. It has an articular capsule which is attached close to the margins of the sacrum and ilium. It is strengthened by some prominent ligaments.

All the above are branches of the posterior division of the internal iliac artery which begins at the level of the lumbosacral articulation.

MOVEMENTS:

         Mainly gliding and anteroposterior rotation which increases during pregnancy.
